Nida's threat to Tokyo fades, But Omais hightens suspense

#1 Postby FWBHurricane » Wed May 19, 2004 8:07 pm

Typhoon Nida continues to weaken as it trails off to the ENE towards the southern coast of Japan but forcast models point at Nida weakening and diminishing even before she reaches Japan. That is very good news. Right now her winds are at 100mph making her a weak Cat 2. She is moving to the ENE at 23mph. Once she has exited, Typhoon Omais comes into view. Right now he is moving to the NW at 5mph. Like Nida he will turn Northward then back to the NE and speed up causing him to weaken rapidly. His winds are just above Tropical Storm level, 75mph with gusts over 90mph. In the next few hours he will strengthen to a strong category one storm and will start to turn, causing him to strengthen quickly then slowly weaken. In the next 72hrs he will have sped up and weakened nowing moving in a NNE course, straight for Tokyo....what a coincidence. At that point he will only be a strong Tropical Storm borderline Typhoon. Hopefully he will stay that way and only bring rain and not wind to the coast. This is 3 days in advance so things could change...just to let ya know.
