Typhoon Nida heads for Tokyo, Also eyes Russian Islands

#1 Postby FWBHurricane » Tue May 18, 2004 12:24 pm

Typhoon Nida continues on her turn towards Japan. She is moving N now at 10mph and speeding up. Winds are at 145mph. She will soon turn towards the ENE then NNE, making a course directly for the city of Tokyo, Japan. She will slowly weaken..incountering shear and cooler waters. She will reach Tokyo as a weak Category One borderline Tropical storm. Once she sideswipes the Japanease coast, she will keeping heading NNE towards the small island chains that belong to Russia on the Kamchatka Peninsula. She will soon enter The Sea on Okhotsk and dissipate into a small bunch of thunderstorms. Looks like it might be a wet beginning to next week in Magadan, Russia. Tokyo is well built, the city skyline can withstand winds of over 100mph. Most of the problems will be with rain and flooding with foliage damage from straightline winds. Lets hope she really weakens once she reaches Tokyo...it would be a disaster if she hit with winds gusting over 120mph.

Typhoon Nida will weaken

#4 Postby FWBHurricane » Tue May 18, 2004 10:42 pm

Just before making landfall at Takyo, Japan...Nida will have weakened greatly to Tropical Storm status, dropping the danger level to a minimum. No real damage expected from Nida except for some Flooding that usually occrs in a TS. Nida will pass right over Tokyo and turn more NE towards the Island of Russia and the Sea of Okhotsk.
