What Will Be the Second Major Atlantic Hurricane Name?
Now that Grace already became our first Atlantic major as a Cat 3 this season, I was thinking Julian would become our second major hurricane. This time as a Cat 4.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

I'll go ahead and say Ida, next one up after Henri.

I’m not sure what name will become the next major, but I’m pretty confident what could be a major: the Gulf storm just about all of the models are showing. If it isn’t a broad sloppy mess, it could have the opportunity to bomb out like Grace; SSTs are still around 30-31C and the Loop Current remains untapped. Ida and Julian could both be taken by tropical waves in the next week — the 0/20 AOI and a wave behind it — so the Gulf storm could get the name Kate.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I think it will be Ida. I think she could be the potential Gulf storm. I sure hope she stays away!
By the way, good job on specifying which basin unlike me.

I'm thinking Julian and it could be that gulf storm GFS ensemble and Euro Ensemble are hinting at.

I don't see the 0/10 wave developing so the gulf storm will likely be Ida or Julian. I'm guessing that will be the next major so whatever name that gets is my vote

I'm gonna go with Julian. Ida might be a sloppy TS forming from that first wave in the MDR and since most models don't like that wave I'm not gonna go major on that one. The storm after that is probably the second MDR wave or the GOM homegrown storm that models have been showing, both of which seem to have significantly higher chances of becoming a dangerous and intense hurricane.

Re: What Will Be the Second Major Atlantic Hurricane Name?
I really want to say Ida since I had pegged her as one of the big ones for this year (albeit months ago), but as of now the most likely candidate for Ida seems to be that little lemon out there and I don't know yet if that's going to do much or not. (Of course I also had Elsa listed and calling her one of the big ones is a bit of a stretch.) Dilemma, dilemma...
But maybe I'll just say Ida anyway because you never know!

I don't know which one will be next, Ida is unlikely . . .
The next major will be between Julian & Peter for sure, but who is the biggest question . . .

Looks like a lot of people got it write in this thread as Ida ended up becoming the next major. Several people including myself called the GOM system that became Ida to be the next major but chose the wrong name (I thought it would be Julian).
