This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Low pressure has formed in SW caribbean

#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Oct 20, 2003 3:57 pm

A low pressure has formed around 12n-81w but it has a small window to develop because of the strong shear in the northern caribbean.Wxman57 you may have a better look at this with your sat pics that are excellent so what do you see there around 12n-81w?

Funny you should ask this now, I just saved a water vapor image with 200mb winds plotted over it. As you can see, 50-60 kt westerly winds all the way down to Cuba. This pattern is forecast to continue through next week, so any storm developing in the SW Caribbean would have a hard time reaching Florida.

Steve Lyons said this afternoon that those winds that are very strong now 60-90 kts aloft in the northern caribbean will with time move north and allow the area to be more favorable. But I say that time will tell what will happen.
