Ocracoke Island access
Amazingly Ocracoke island escaped major damage; unfortunately Highway 12 st the north end of the island was destroyed and the ferry docks where the Hatteras ferry docks at were heavily damaged. So there is no Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry until the road and docks are repaired or replaced. The ferries from Swan Quarter and Cedar island are running, but only for residents and emergency vehicles. No visitors are permitted on the island due to limited electric power. It is my understanding that the island MAY be re opened to visitors in about 2 weeks. I doubt if the Hatteras ferry will be in operation by then so visitors will need to use the 2 other aforementioned toll ferries. If anyone has any news about Ocracoke Island feel free to respond here or email me at george_rinaldi@msn.com

Yes, Ocracoke IS open tomorrow!
Check out this message board for the latest in Ocracoke news. It is a hassle to get there, but it is open. Must come from Swan Quarter on ferry instead of Hatteras. Power is on now.
