Brownsville AFD.....Possible Coastal Flood Watch and BOC

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Mon Sep 29, 2003 6:28 am

.MARINE...A MASSIVE SURFACE RIDGE EXTENDS SOUTH-SOUTHEAST FROM THE
YUKON TERRITORY OF CANADA TO SOUTHERN TEXAS. MEANWHILE...A TROPICAL
LOW OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA IS SLOWLY RIDING WEST-NORTHWEST INTO
THE GULF OF MEXICO/BAY OF CAMPECHE. THE RIDGE OVER TEXAS AND
TROPICAL LOW OVER THE YUCATAN ARE SANDWICHING DEEP SOUTH TX COASTAL
WATERS...PRODUCING A BROAD 20 TO 25 KNOT FLOW ACROSS THE ENTIRE WEST
GULF. THIS FLOW IS PREDICTED TO PERSIST THROUGH THURSDAY FOR OUR
COASTAL SECTIONS...BRINGING INTO QUESTION THE NEED FOR A COASTAL
FLOOD WATCH. 9/29 00Z WAVEWATCH III BINARY DATA FOR BUOY 020 SHOWS A
SLIGHTLY LOWER PEAK THAN THE 9/28 18Z DATA FOR THIS EVENT. THE
CURRENT FORECAST CALLS FOR A 2.5 METER SWELL WITH 8 TO 9 SECOND
PERIOD LASTING FROM TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...PEAKING NEAR 3 METERS
9 SECONDS DURING THAT TIME. TO EXACERBATE THE SITUATION...HIGH TIDE
LEVELS ARE PROGGED TO REACH AT LEAST 2 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOW LOW WATER
FROM TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION...WILL
ISSUE A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH FOR PADRE ISLAND.

AFTER THURSDAY THE RIDGE IS FORECAST TO SLIDE EAST. WHAT THE
TROPICAL LOW IN THE BAY OF CAMPECHE WILL DO MUST BE WATCHED CLOSELY.

KattDaddy look like that senario you were talking about in an earlier post might pan out. If that system is sitting in the BOC when that high shifts to the east it's coming N or NW.
