*** Please note: The following data encompasses data utilizing today's standard for naming storms. Subtropical storms are included, but depressions aren't. In addition, the dates reflect when a tropical storm reached that status rather than depression status. Adjustments have been made to include unnamed storms where in today's standard it would have been named. For those interested in how we are doing compared to 2005....

On 8/21/05 we were 9/3/2 (though Cindy was thought to be a tropical storm at that time... adjusted for postseason analysis we were 9/4/2).

On 8/21/12 we are 9/3/0 (though Beryl might be upgraded in postseason... which would make it 9/4/0).

In 2005, Jose was named on August 22.

Katrina on August 24.

Lee was named on August 31, and Maria on September 2.

So if 96L becomes Joyce tomorrow, we will stay on pace with 2005. We'll likely need either 95L or some frontal spinup off the East Coast to develop into Kirk this upcoming week... but if those happen, we've got until the end of the month to find Leslie. And with the way the long-range GFS keeps pumping out Cape Verde storms, we actually have a strong possibility of maintaining the 2005 pace of named storms.

This Isaac will be the only one to affect land out of all the Isaac's.

And MAYBE it will be the big storm that get's it retired.
