When people talk about Analog years for hurricane seasons ie 1966, 69 98 and 2005 for comparisons to the current season what factors do they use to arrive at the comparison years?

Sea surface temperatures, Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, North Atlantic Oscillation, Atlantic tripole, EL Niño-Southern Oscillation. There may be other factors but I think those are some of the most important.
