technical question

#1 Postby HurricaneJoe22 » Thu Jun 03, 2010 7:57 pm

When I run the looping satellite pics from the National Hurricane Center site, they do not update on their own. I've noticed when I start the loops and then look at them a few hours later, the loop is still for the same set of hours as it was when I first started them. How do I get them to keep updating on their own if I keep the window up throughout the day?

They don't update automatically. Just refresh the page.

That is not true they do update. The GOES-East/West Hurricane Sectors do not update but the ones below that section do update. The section labled "GOES Floater Imagery – 30 minute updates" does update. It has always worked for me. :D

If it doesn't update, just click the "refresh" button on the loop page itself (I think it is in the upper right hand corner?) and it will gather the latest images and refresh the loop.

There may be a timeout on the web page that only refreshes it if that window is active. If you move the loop to the background, then it may not update. I'm not saying that particular web page is doing this, but it's possible.

The funny thing is that it used to update for me. I've just noticed it this season. And when I do refresh it, the loop starts up again like the first time, but the time span is still the same as when I first started the loop earlier in the day. It's not a big deal now, but pretty soon it will be and I want to have this figured out before all hell breaks loose.

Bingo! Thank you. I left the window up rather than minimizing it and that did the trick. It updated on its own. Now if solving my unemployment problem for the past year were as easy.
