In terms of number of hurricanes, it's even slower. Been a while since there's been only two hurricanes in a season.

Yes, the last time this occurred was 1982.

Given Ida, I suppose it's worth noting that seasons with three hurricanes are far more common. In fact, this previously occurred in 1997. Other recent examples include the hurricane seasons of 1994, 1987, and 1983.
