4 years since Wilma

#1 Postby DanKellFla » Sat Oct 24, 2009 5:30 am

Well, it has been four years since Wilma. The storm that nearly ruined Halloween. At least it was cool after the storm. I am gratefull for the 4 quiet years that I have had.

I'm glad that was the last hurricane too, it did stop the trick or treaters here, as it wasn't cleaned up here yet. At least we got away with minimal damage here, it could of been worse, my neighbors had worse damage than we did. It's hard to believe it's been 4 years already.

Yes, at this hour I was readying to leave for a (unknown to me at the time) 10-day stay at a Sebring hotel - very stressful for everyone, and not a good memory, that's for sure...

Four years later, some still are having roofing problems...

the middle video best reminds of wilma ....as i saw it from my front door (wind protected) it was a truly awesome phenomena for me to behold....i watched it with my parents and my brother and what i will remember from wilma was the power and noise of the winds going from say 50-60 to cranking at just over 100 mph.....(just like you see by :04 second on the video that the above poster linked from suburban ft. laudydale) it was like a switch was flipped and mother nature was showing me something to behold....it was a very powerful moment and i got to enjoy it from relative safety.....

after the storm my dad raced to the house being built in parkland.....the builder left a couple windows open and there was some decent water damage but very minor wind damage...i was also supposed to move in to an apt....being built over by the florida panthers arena but the storm pretty much set the builder's back long enough that by the time they finished .....we had taken our deposit back ....anyhow i have long held the opinion S FL and especially the KEYS are living comfortably on borrowed time....and people have blocked it out for peace of mind. some day a cat 4/5 will come knocking and i just hope people have the time to find safety and rebuild their lives after.

Yes, it is self serving to some extent but here is our Wilma video on YouTube. Even though I produced it, I could not have done the work without the help of many people- Mike Watkins included!

Enjoy.
