No one has mentioned...

I have not seen any mention of Craig Fugate being asked to head up FEMA. With all of the Floridians on this board, what are your thoughts about him possibly getting this high-profile post? I met him once, in 2006 I believe it was, and really did not have much of a chance to talk to him, only for a brief moment. I think his experience in Florida should serve FEMA well, especially when it comes to hurricane disasters. Beyond that, I know little of his overall EM experience but assume it would be fairly strong to be where he is now. Just wanted some feed back from folks here...

I've been reading about it. I very much liked him during the Hurricanes of the last five years. He kept us well informed. I'm not sure if FEMA is a good fit for him or not, I guess I dont want give him up. I think he will do well wherever he goes.

Almost anyone makes sense compared to the way FEMA is not run now. I would think Fugate would be a good candidate experience wise to say the very lest. I know nothing of him past the fact he has obviously done quite well for Florida.

Fugate is sharp. I am tremendously glad he's in charge at FEMA now. Outstanding management skills. I have heard him give some really snappy presentations and he seems like he doesn't take any ridiculous comments off anyone. He says it like it is, and doesn't care much for political correctness or sugar-coating.

If you aren't familiar with Craig Fugate, check youtube or other video sources for some of his presentations.

Craig certainly knows the effects of hurricanes and disasters and how to respond to them. He also is a BIG BELIEVER in the 72 hour take care of yourself philosophy. He got a lot of criticism for telling people off who expected ice, water and food 6 hours after the storm came through. While I think he is an excellent choice I'm not sure anyone can really run FEMA correctly since it was merged into homeland security. While that department is correctly focused on keeping the homeland safe from terror attacks it took Katrina to teach them that weather still accounts for the majority of disasters in this country weather or otherwise.
