Re: Hurricane Jerry (1989)
I remember it quite well. This was the latest hurricane to ever strike anywhere in Texas (Oct 16). I live about 40 straight line miles from the city of Galveston in Brazoria County which was on the "clean side". Normally, I would expect a hurricane striking Galveston to have a major effect on us too but because of the smallness of this storm it didn't happen. We started getting some fairly high winds, maybe 20-30 mph while Jerry was a little ways out in the gulf, but as it got close to Galveston, the winds died down to where it just seemed like a normal night in Angleton as we watched on TV the damage being done in Galveston. It was weird. I don't remember us even getting rain.
