Video of Hurrcane Luis aftermath St. Martin 1995

#1 Postby msbee » Tue Jul 15, 2008 9:36 am

My husband just found this on YouTube.
It is an amazing documentary of what St. Maarten looked like after Luis hit us.
I found it very hard to watch. It reminds me of why I am so scared every time a new hurricane season rolls around.
Once you have lived through one and its aftermath, you never forget.

such devastation! I can't even begin to imagine living through that. It was bad enough here with Francis, Jeanne and Wilma and those were mild compared to Luis. Thanks for posting msbee. Those wishing for a hurricane should truly look at this video. I do understand the excitement. I have felt it. But now that I have felt the aftermath it isn't worth it. Now the adrenaline gets going hoping for them to stay away.

Those town houses look well built and they survived the hurricane mostly intact, but the shanty town houses on the hillside were totaled. The supermarket was gutted like a tornado.

We believe that the supermarket and the Executive Business Center which was above it and which were both well built buildings were indeed destroyed by a tornado.
People in the area reported hearing a noise like a freight train which is how people sometimes describe tornadoes.
It is known that hurricanes can spawn tornadoes.

Barb:

Thank you for posting. It was both fascinating and terrifying at the same time and really didn't do justice to the actual event or aftermath. However, it was close enough to bring back all of those terrifying memories-something you never really get over.

Hope all is well with you and yours.
