WPAC: Invest 99W

Finally something that looks promising in the WPAC. After the past four invests, it's about time something started going.

No mention as of yet in JMA bulletin.

Is the 2007 typhoon season expected to be a quiet one? I thought post El-Nino seasons tend to be. Also, don't post El-Nino seasons also tend to have a couple of intese typhoons strike the Philippines?

Correct Bill (that post-Nino seasons tend to be quiet). As for strikes on the Philippines, they are common in Nina years, but I'm not sure post-Nino years (though there is a correlation b/t the two).

EDIT: I meant correlation between post-Nino years trending Nina

1983 Typhoon season was below average because we were coming off of a strong El Nino phase of 1982-1983. Interestingly, East Pacific was very active in 1983, while the Atlantic was inactive.

Post Niño seasons tend to start slow in WPAC and then pick up late in the season and that happens to be the time of year when the Philippines is most likely to get hit by strong storms.

This one went the way of the dodo again. The Wpac hasn't seen much action is quite a while.
