(EDIT) Despite what happens with Ernesto in the US, lets not forget the damaging effects that Ernesto will still have in the Caribbean, especially Haiti. We saw what a weak TS and Depression can do to the poor island with Jeanne...
Anyone heard anything yet? Post news here.

Yes but it doesn't even make sense to say MAY. You are just going by what you see now. There is plenty of time for it to strengthen.
Ok, well, that's not what the thread is about anyway. I apologize.

Those who are saying storm cancel are pretty irresponsible themselves, IMHO. I find it almost as bad as w*shcasting (being on the flip-side of extreme).
However, I haven't heard any reports. Doesn't it usually take a bit of time when there's damage in Haiti, for word to get out? (I'm asking.)

Due to the nature of the terrain, scarcity of available reports, and other factors, it usually takes time for reports to come out, if they ever do.

One thing I did realize. Haiti had little to no warning of a hurricane, or a possible landfall. They were totally caught off-guard, and even if there was hours of warning, how would the locals get it? I could see maybe in Port-Au-Prince with the radio station(s), but still the electricity is only on 5 hours of the day, and I doubt many own a radio. Also, consider the villages cut off from the big city, it might have just looked like a rain storm coming, unless the UN forces were able to get a warning out. But still, most warning would have through word of mouth, and there is people out there who would disreguard that warning. This would have been a total surprise to Haiti, this could have been even catastrophic.

Port-au-Prince Sunday AUG 27 3:45 local.
The rain and wind started last night about 8:00pm.
Quite a bit of wind. We heard several transformers
blow up. The rain lasted all night and all day
Sunday. Light to moderate showers.
Our area of Port au Prince did not get any flooding.
Our cistern did not even get full. However the
Southern coast seems to have gotten pounded. I am
hearing quite a few reports of flooding from Jacmel
all the way to Les Cayes. Most people there probably
had little to no warning and, if they did, could do
little to prepare. It will take a couple of days to
get a full report of what has happened in that area.
