I-10 Briidge over Escambia Bay in Pensacola/Evac?

#1 Postby jenmrk » Sun Aug 27, 2006 8:57 am

May be a stupid question but here goes.

Do any of you all know what would happen with the bridge as far a evac goes, it has all of those steel grids which I am wondering will they need to remove and if Ernesto does head our way, this bridge is all ready a headache for those of us living here, an evac would be hard to immagine, on top of this we have road constrution on hwy 90 from Pace to Pensacola and all of the mess on the interstate in Pensacola...any thought as this may be a big factor in getting out of harms way if Ernesto does head our way or anywhere near here?

They can set up partial contraflow on the bridge so that they're running two lanes eastbound and one westbound instead of two lanes westbound/one eastbound. IIRC, that's what they did when the Panhandle was expecting an influx of Katrina evacuees.

Though I'm really not sure how much it would help when you take merge times into account. Best thing to do might be to get a really good gazetteer style road atlas and do back roads north until you hit I-65

It would not be fun. I drive HWY 90 routinely and since Ivan even the best of days are congested. I would consider taking whatever road north you can into Alabama. 2 lane backroads would be better than I-10 and HWY 90 IMHO

I too drive it daily, I am lab courier for the hospitals here,my reservations have been made in St.Albans W.V at my moms, my husband will be stuck here as he is a deputy in Escambia County. I just thought that the bridge info might be helpful to others that are further south that may not realize that we still have a real mess with the interstate.
