"Gut feel" Meteorology

#1 Postby curtadams » Sat Aug 26, 2006 11:16 am

What's all this "gut feel" meteorology? My gut doesn't know beans about meteorology. (hmm - bad analogy - it *does* know about beans) It knows about digesting ice cream and pork chops, and it's interested in ice cream and pork chops (or the lack thereof) but it really doesn't have much to say about upper tropospheric air pressures and the like. The air pressures it does want to discuss really shouldn't be mentioned in polite company. On those rare occasions when it does chime in about the weather I ignore it because I figure it doesn't know what it's talking about. Is my gut too stuck in its ways? Has it not realized its full potential? Does my gut need some self improvement seminars? Or maybe some coursework at a community college? Or is it OK if when it feels a little empty I just eat lunch?

Have you noticed how the gut senses when to change its feeling based on the current models that are being released that hour? Such intuition.
