Disturbing article regarding funds available in the windstorm fund. Insurers are requesting an increase of 20% in rates. The fund now could only pay out 1.1 billion in claims before having to turn the losses back to the insurers. Texas needs a storm, like I need another hole in my head.

At least you have gotten hit 8 times like Florida has in the past 2 years. :eek:

Your right, but the companies that sell the reinsurance are the same and they pass those rate increases to everyone along the coast. The Gulf coast is near crisis mode when it comes to insurance. If youre not already paying 3K a year for insurance, you could soon be.

and what really scare the crap out of me is having a major storm hitting the oil refineries off the TX and LA coast... gas prices will skyrocket from just the threat, not to mention possible gas shortages that might ensue...

Counting tropical storms, Florida has been hit 13 times...Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne, Arlene, Dennis, Katrina, Ophelia, Rita, Tammy, Wilma, Alberto...
