we haven't had a La Nina hurricane season since 1999 or 2000 if my memory is correct.

the onset of a El Nino ended the 2004 season at end of September

and last year was neutral phase

why do media just report stuff before checking facts for?

Because they rarely get called on it, at least publicly or in a manner embarrassing enough to make them retract or correct themselves.

The Media have created many "stories" over the years. Look at the “mysterious” Bermuda Triangle (a great case of playing quick and loose with the facts). I know because I investigated it when I was a teen. I found a lot of bunk, but little substance. Nearly all so called "disappearances" could be explained by weather (including of course tropical weather), human error, high seas crime, or misrepresentation of the facts. On a side note doing my own debunking of this myth helped kindle my interest in Oceanography and Meteorology. Ultimately leading to a promising career path.
