COULD YOU IMAGINE THE DESTRUCTION THAT WOULD OCCUR IF THIS OCCURS IN THE FUTURE. I JUST HOPE IT WON'T HAPPEN.

well iam sorry to say this but i think this the future for florida....this what i believe this active cycle has instore for FLORIDA.

1941 Storm # 5 - hit SE Florida as @ Cat 3, hit the Big Bend of Florida as a Cat 1


1944 Storm # 11 - hit south of Tampa as a Cat 1, running NW of Orlando and through Jacksonville.

1945 Storm #1 - hit Cedar Key area as a Cat 2/1 and exited near St Augustine as a Cat 1/TS
1945 Storm # 9 - hit SE Florida as a Cat 4, plowed through Orlando as a Cat 1, exited NE Florida as a strong TS/Cat 1...

1946 Storm # 5 hit Tampa as a weakening Cat 4-1 (right before landfall) and plowed through Gainesville area as a Cat 1/TS
1946 Storm # 6 hit South Central Florida as a TS

1947 Storm # 4 - hit SE Florida as a Cat 5/4 and proceeded to hit NOLA as a Cat 1
1947 Storm # 6 - hit Tampa (north) as a TS
1947 Storm # 7 - hit extreme NE Florida as a TS
1947 Storm # 8 - hit Keys/SW Florida as a Cat 1 and then turned and hit Savannah as a Cat 1

1948 Storm # 7 - hit SW Fla as a Cat 3, exited South Central FL as a Cat 1
1948 Storm # 8 - hit SW Fla as a Cat 2, exited SE FL as a Cat 1

1949 Storm # 2 - hit SouthCentral Florida as a Cat 4, gave Orlando Cat 1/2 winds and Gainesville Cat 1/TS Winds.

1950 - Easy hit Tampa Bay area as a Cat 3 - gave Central FL Cat 1 winds and North Florida TS Winds.
1950 - King hit SE Florida as a Cat 3, Orlando got Cat 1 winds, North Florida got Cat 1 winds.


What a decade!!!!

Yes Hurakan, I have seen that map for FL in the 1940s and it was a rough time for us. Thanks for posting this.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see the point of this thread. In the graphic, 7 major hurricanes hit Florida over a period of 10 years. Over the past 2 alone, FL has had 4 direct, and 1 indirect strike (Charley, Jeanne, Dennis, Wilma, I: Ivan)

In the graphic there are 10 total (over a period of 10 years), and in the past 2 alone, total, we have had Charley, Ivan, Jeanne, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma....7.

IMO, there is no comparison.

eeks, year after year ,wow. Seriously, if that were to happen now, our beautiful state would, well, ithe whole insurance industry would become broke. It would be awful, simply awful. :cry:
