TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 9

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A CYCLONE WARNING is now current for a CATEGORY 2 CYCLONE for the coastal areas
between Roebourne and Coral Bay and inland parts of the West Pilbara.
A CYCLONE WATCH extends to the adjacent parts of the Gascoyne and coastal areas
between Coral Bay and Minilya Roadhouse.
At 5am WST TROPICAL CYCLONE HUBERT was estimated to be
170 kilometres north of Onslow and
205 kilometres west northwest of Karratha
moving south southwest at 12 kilometres per hour.
Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour are expected on the west Pilbara
coast this morning. As TROPICAL CYCLONE HUBERT approaches the coast destructive
winds with gusts to 160 kilometres per hour may develop in between Mardie and
Exmouth this afternoon.
Heavy rainfall is likely about the west Pilbara coast today, causing flooding in
coastal streams.
Tides between Dampier and Onslow are likely to rise above the normal high tide
mark with very rough seas and flooding of low-lying coastal areas.

Recent movement : South southwest at 12 kilometres per hour.
Central Pressure : 970 hPa.
Maximum wind gusts : 150 kilometres per hour near the centre.
Severity category : 2.
The next advice will be issued at 9am WST Friday.
FESA-State Emergency Service advises of the following community alerts:
BLUE ALERT: People in or near the communities of Karratha, Roebourne, Point
Samson, Wickham, Dampier, Pannawonica, Onslow, Exmouth and Mardie should begin
taking precautions.
Communities between Roebourne and Minilya Roadhouse should listen for the next

expected in coastal areas. However, strong and gusty winds with moderate
rainfall should persist in parts of the western Pilbara during Saturday as the

flooding through the west Pilbara
