This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Max mayfield says expect 50 named storms this year

#1 Postby Matt-hurricanewatcher » Sat Apr 01, 2006 4:32 am

A report has came in that Max Mayfield has been visiting with Dr.Gray discusing on how active this season could be. Max thinks this could be more active then last season...With maybe starting as early as mid May. With upwards of 40 to 50 named storms. He also thinks the track will move westward under the strong Bermuda high.

Dr gray thinks something close to it...He said expect a very active season maybe 30 to 40 named storms. The computer models out of the nhc show that the sst's over the next few months sky rocketing through the roof. Max said that data shows that the loop current could get into the 100 degree range this summer.

Just what I heard...

I discovered real early this morning that some April Fools jokes can backfire. My wife was sleeping in a little bit...I casually mentioned that there was an early season tropical depression currently passing by the Yucatan Peninsula. Before I could hollar "April Fools".....I discovered she was crying. I feel terrible. :(

It's funny, but not quite as much if you've read the other thread that said what Max Mayfield actually said. Good try, though.

This was a pretty clear April Fool's joke... you should lower the number to 20. Then I would be fooled.

100 degree Loop Current? That would turn a mere blob into a Category 5 hurricane within hours...
