Hurricane Categories Go Commercial

#1 Postby Ixolib » Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:45 pm

With the recent hurricane seasons now becoming so ingrained on the American consumer, even the Oreck Vacuum Marketing Department has jumped on the bandwagon...

...And talk about performance - the suction velocity of the Oreck XL is equivalent to a category 2 hurricane, measuring 102 mph!

And the company even has the actual experience to directly relate to such claims...
David Oreck founded the Oreck Corporation in the United States in 1963. The company’s home office is in New Orleans, Louisiana, and its principal manufacturing facilities are in Long Beach, Mississippi. Its new Mississippi plant covers 375,000 square feet and is reputed to be one of the most modern in the world.

I guess we can add this to the growing list of consumer goods that sell because of the word "hurricane" i.e., songs, drinks. What else??

I'd be afraid to use a Cat 5 vacuum. A person might not even be able to wield it.

My question is did their facilities survive the onslaught last season?

Ya know - that's a good question. They were pretty far north in Long Beach, kinda between the railroad tracks and I-110 somewhere I think. Not sure where their home office is in N.O.

But, they must be up and running since you can tune into just about any channel and see a commercial for Oreck Vacuums!!

As I recall, they suffered some major damage, but the Oreck Company kept all its workers on and moved to another facility while their old one was being repaired.

When I find the link to that story I will post it.
