The Sun Herald newpaper reported a few weeks ago that the damage estimates in Mississippi alone are over 100 BILLION dollars. Add to that the flood damge to SE La and we are easily looking at 200 BILLION+ dollars. Katrina caused more damage than the former top ten put together......MGC

I, too, heard those $200 Billion numbers thrown around in the weeks right after the storm; but I believe that despite unprecedented damage to the US by a storm, they were over-inflated. The $80 Billion sounds a bit more realistic; but who know what it might finally wind up as? I did hear that insurance claims alone have already reached around $40 Billion, which puts it right in line with the reported $80 B. total. I'm sure it'll remain in flux for quite a while tho'.

Its hard for me to believe that Katrina leveling Gulfpot and Biloxi, and flooding NO and Mobile only will yield 80 billion.

You very well may be right, Normandy. Time alone will tell.

Especially considering Andrew's price tag. Even though Andrew was very costly, he missed two densely populated areas. (Miami and New Orleans)

I was shocked at the 80 billion as well. I was thinking more in terms of 120 billion due to the large amount of flood damage, yielding a 3:1 ratio between insured and uninsured, like in Floyd.

Andrew while missing Miami, did still strike a very populated area to the south. South of Miami is very densely populated, which is I, I believe, it caused the damage it did
