Both the Miami Hurricane of 1926 and the Palm Beach Hurricane of 1928 were in large part responsible for ending the big land boom in South Florida during the 20's and effectively sending the state into Bankruptcy and depression.
Some of the stories in books about these hurricanes are really incredible.
1926 and 1928 were also eerily similar in that both years also saw early season hurricanes strike a little further north along the Florida east coast near the Jupiter-Stuart area.
