Here I found an interesting article about a practice for "Hurricane Wilma" in 2002. It was based on Hurricane King from 1950, which was a mid-October storm. Some similarities between Wilma 2005 and Wilma-Test 2002/King 1950 are significant. Of course, King/test-Wilma was not nearly as bad as the real deal.
Kindof ironic that they chose Wilma, probably because they doubted highly in 2002 that it would never exist. And then in 2005, we get Super Hurricane Wilma.
