Will We Have A Cape Verde Season/Cape Verde Storms In 2006?

The 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season has broken many records. However, it has also been unusual in the fact that we have not had a typical Cape Verde season this year with Cape Verde systems. Next year, however, I think we will have more of a Cape Verde season with more African Cape Verde storms forming east of 40W, pending if we don't have a strong or persistent El Nino next year.

I will have to say "YES," more than likely. The 2005 season has been extremely weird/interesting in this criteria, but if you look back, almost every season has at least 1 CV system.

Um...Hurricane Emily and Hurricane Irene were Cape Verde hurricanes. Still, 2 out of 25 is not many.

I meant if next year if we will have MORE of a Cape Verde season, ~Floydbuster, by having more than one Cape Verde storm. Irene was a Cape Verde storm this year, but Emily generally isn't considered quite one, because Emily wasn't classified at or east of 40W.

Yes, 2005 really was an exceptional year thats still going on. And any year with not really a cape verde storm usually has one the following year.

Also, Irene wasn't named until it crossed 40W.

I think so, especially if we have a La Nina of any kind next year.

I would hate to have seen 2005 with a La Nina.

But, yes, generally, there will be a decent CV season next year IMHO.

The problem is, due to the somewhat below record ACEs this year, the record SSTs continue. The waters of the southern Caribbean and Atlantic will stay quite warm through next year, and I expect next year will be very bad indeed, at least a 1995 level.
