Good thread! I've much enjoyed it -- particularly the whole wishcaster debacle. Sort of puts things into perspective...

BTW -- a little off topic, but... -- I equate IQ tests for measuring intelleignce to the LBAR for predicting hurricane tracks. No doubt you all are extremely intelligent...and just so happen to score high on that type of test...

I understand your position Josephine96, I was in awe last year when we had a brush with 3 hurricanes. Nothing too intense here, but make me drool with fascination and wonderment at the fury of nature as I had never seen it.

Im the same way you are, I just want some cat 1 winds here on the east coast. Any more than that gets scary though

Trust me when I say this, you don't want any hurricane winds, even cat 1. I know..I survived Katrina! I'm only 80 nautical miles from where she made landfall in southern Mississippi. I thought I knew what a hurricane was have been through Fredric in 79, I was dead wrong! Hurricanes are awesome to watch on satellite and radar, until your the one in the middle of it, then it's not so fun anymore.

I have been in hurricane force winds twice. It is pretty scary, but really fascinating. It only happens a few times per lifetime so I'm wonderful forecasting it

I see locationally biased forecasting here all the time. Thats why I've pretty much given up reading anything by anyone other then a promet or the recon thread on talking tropics. Thats just a personal choice of mine. I can't see how uneducated or even educated guessing can in any way improve the quality of our understanding. So I abstain from those threads and stick to ones I can engage in without getting sick. People have a right as members to post, and the administrators have a right to govern the substance of the board and membership etc.

As a Rita survivor, I am assuming that there will be a very large storm surge into the Florida area that it hits. I have never seen so much water go inland so far as with Hurricane Rita. New Orleans had levees breach from Katrina. Southwest Louisiana had water four foot deep inside buildings as far as 20 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. We are in a rebuilding mode here in Vermilion Parish. I pray that everyone stays safe. We had nearly 1000 people rescued off of their roof's by boats or helicopters. I don't wish that on anyone. My Aunt lives in Punta Gorda and is a Charley survivor. There was no surge for that storm. She says her house is 18 feet above sea level. yet. with a 25 foot storm surge she will have seven feet of water in her house. I asked her if she had a escape hatch on her roof, because that is where she will end up. Waiting for a ride out by chopper. Katrina and Rita came in with large surge's, so I am assuming that Wilma will have the same affect. Unless, your home's first floor is above 25ft. I would evacuate. It is not fun on a roof, with snakes and alligators looking to join you.

I wanna take a second to explain something..

I am not a "wonderful forecaster" or a doom and gloomer". I am an analytical storm enthusiast

I do not "want" a direct hit here. I am completely fascinated by what the storms can do. I like to hear the howl of the winds, and the pictures I see of the damage {as bad as they look} often leave me fascinated wondering "how on earth could 1 big wind do all that"

I did go through 3 strong hurricanes last year and while 1 of them did scare me half to death, it did not make me lessen my fascination to the power of a hurricane.

I do not continue to say "It all depends how far north.." because I'm wishing for it to go a certain way. I am a person with a very high IQ score who particularly likes to analyze the possibilities.

All of you may also remember how I was "wishing" {as you'd all call it} Jeanne here last year and ya'll rode it off till you finally saw Jeanne make the loop and come right back this way.

Anyway.. All I am trying to say is.. We {myself included} are all excited, we are all running on high adrenaline, wanting this storm to finally come and go.

Please bear with me and anyone else who may feel the way I do and let us tell you what we believe "could" happen, even if you disagree. If you do disagree, please do it in a respectful manner. None of this "doom and gloom, -removed- it your way" talk.

Thank you for your work. You insipired me to post what my research and best guesstimates of this storm might be. You've put it on the line and I felt obligated to do the same here finally.

Those that mock your forecasts have no clue; I offer congrats on all your hard work and the insight you provide us. You are 1000% correct:
