Here are two images- I found the original in another post about the storm surge from Katrina- so this is NOT my original image, though I have some coming from Jesse Bass. Anyhow- here is a quick rendering of what the water level might have looked like- without blue sky, of course, with that horrific storm surge. Below is without water- then with water.

Now where is that exactly. Is that I-10? I have chills going up my spine right now just looking at the two pictures. But it does give people a wake up call when they say storm surge.

That is I-10, in Hancock County, Mississippi. That is highway 603 going under I-10.

The green X marks the spot. I added my observations for flooded
areas.

Well, I messed that up - the intersection to the right of the X - I-10
and Highway 603 is where this image was taken.

Just a very meager attempt to add some darker skies and grayer water to Hurricantrack's original post above. That surge, at that point, is simply amazing. Really gives a whole new perspective to the bumper sticker made especially for that highway which goes: "Pray for me, I drive 603"!! An indication that 603 is quite dangerous, even outside of hurricane season...

...And probably a few floating cars and refridgerators. Oh yeah, and the brown/gray grass along I-10 that has since turned much greener, albeit still heavily littered with the debris flying out of the dump trucks!!
