Sure wish you were here to experience this incredible season! However, the more I think about it, you have the best seat in the house!

I was all of 6 years old when it happened but I still remember his coverage of Hugo as it was approaching SC. Anyone else remember that? He broke out the ruler and protractor and drew on the television screen the eye of the storm and the straight path it was moving in? Things like that you just don't see from your average forecaster.

Many people don't know that he named Camille after his daughter:

In 1968, Hope began working for the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida. While at the center, Hope began receiving recognition for his technical achievements in hurricane forecasting. In 1969, Hope's daughter Camille graduated from high school, so he added her name to the list of names to be used for hurricanes that year. He had no way of knowing at the time that the storm that would take the name Camille would become one of the most powerful and most destructive hurricanes to ever hit the United States when it slammed into Mississippi.

Great post Downdraft! He was one heck of a guy and he would've been in his glory during these past two hurricanes seasons.
