0 cape verde storms!!!
For one thing we haven't had a true Cape Verde storm yet this year Like a Hugo or Floyd. All people that follow hurricanes like me for 21 years are scratching our heads right now. It is very unusual we have had so much dust come off of the African coast . The dust and combination of sheering winds in the eastern atlantic have dried out these waves and have turned them into weak low pressures with no moisture to work with. They usually croak as soon as they leave the African coast.

If you didnt love to track a good hurricane and see the build up of the story on TV, you would not be here posting on this board.. And thats the truth and everyone here kows that!

P.S. : I am 35.. i guess that makes me immature too!!??
Interesting to me that in 4 pages no one from the islands has posted...so I'll do it.
Generalities in the above post are rampant. SOME people come to this board because there is on the minute reporting on what is happening with a storm. They are tracking because it is a matter of life and death, home or hiding place. There are many sites to give information, this is one of them, and it is very good. But some of us do NOT want to experience anything close to a big storm. Some of us just want to be informed...are interested in weather because it impacts our daily lives and frankly, most of the people in the islands use this as a supplement to other sites with only factual information. Some of us are merely entertained while we gain knowledge, or outraged (a distraction of sorts) while respecting very much the knowledge that can be gained here.
I find it so interesting that we are not regarded in the slightest by most of the US as having any meaning in regards to a Cape Verde storm, when usually (thankfully, we've been so blessed this year) we are the first in line. But apparently, the storm watchers in the US see us as merely bumps in the tracking road.
Narrow vision in Americans isn't the surprise...it's just that it never ceases that is the sadness to most of us (and yes, I'm American (oops, forgot age being an issue, I'm 51) and I live on sort of American soil, but...the difference is huge and you won't understand it unless you visit, so c'mon down).

i find it "narrow minded" that once again Americans are to blame.. not all Americans look over the islands, i would say in most cases, we are just concerned about our own communities, for example, katrina and rita....most people were talking about what would happen once it was in the gulf while it was hitting florida, now i guess its because they are "narrow minded americans" but florida is part of america , but they wernt overlooking florida they were just concerned about their communities. so its not because you are not part of "America" , though people just love to blame us for everything

I come here not necessarily because I love hurricanes, but out of need to keep myself informed about what is out there and possibly heading my way. I certainly could function if I never saw another tropical storm or hurricane. I visit this forum because I feel that many who post here have knowledge and I can rely on the info they post to help me make needed preparations. I was hit twice last year within 3 weeks and I still get nervous when I hear a storm is headed for the east coast of Florida. No I wasn't hit by a Katrina or Rita and I am thankful for that. I do feel concern for others in the path of a hurricane whether it be one of our Island neighbors or one of my neighbors here in the states. With Jeanne last year I saw the damage and death caused before we got hit and it was terrible. The people living on some of the islands have no where to evacuate to and I do fear for them. Anyway thanks to all of you guys who post so much needed info here. I for one appreciate it more than you could ever know!!

Sorry to bring this topic back up again... but I would like to share with you a cool website about North Carolina hurricanes. The State Climate Office of North Carolina has interesting information about hurricanes that have affected North Carolina.
