1 mile = 1609m

calc: (3600 * 50)/1609 = 111.87mph.

buoy data has max wind gust as 97.1knots, (1kt = 1.1508mph) = 111.74mph

so its about right

at 5pm EST, IT recorded a winds gust seen below:

22/21 42001 25.8 -89.7 26.1 25.7 350 78 G 99 350117 948.4-32.7 28.1 11.0 13 * 42001

That is a 135 mph wind gust, thus the title.

I think this Buoy made it through the first windmaxima (the bigger out eyewall currently replacing the old one) but not into the actual eye. The winds never dropped down all the way.
