This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Shell shocked and coming to the realization on what is about to happen..

If this verifies along with the intensity. Then we are going to see a complete city *Surfside* be wiped off the map.

Forget Bluewater Hwy, and possibly Treasure Island at San Luis pass as well....

She has slowed considerably. Does this perhaps mean a trend more WNW?

well, now it's time to really start thinking about this. even here in nw houston, I don't know if I want to be around with a landfalling cat 5 at freeport. even though I am well inland, pictures of homestead are starting to dance in my head.

They say becareful for what you ask for because you just might get it. Looks like the upper TX coast is getting a bit more than we can chew. At this point we can only hope for divine intervention.

There's going to be issues with the skyscrapers too...

This is BAD. This is as bad as it gets for Houston/Galveston.

747, even if Rita weakens slightly like Katrina did, Rita will still drive a Cat-5 surge into Galveston Bay. I think you will have to add a few more towns and cities to your list......MGC

You have to take into account that Rita may actually be peaking now and within the next few hours. It is very rare for a hurricane to maintain cat 5 beyond 36 hours. Not impossible, but very rare, even with ideal water conditons and lack of shear.

I suspect that we may see some eye wall replacement going on tomorrow with some weakening. In any case, this storm should still reach the Texas coast at cat 4, which, as we saw with Katrina, is plenty destructive and extremely dangerous.
