About 3 miles to the west, possibly. Its current position is close to a legitimate 89.6, instead of the 89.55 that got rounded west to 89.6 the last two advisories.

Storms of this size tend to wobble when they become unbalanced. The friction with land allowed some dry air into the system on the western flank... then as the eastern flank wrapped around to the north and now north-west... it is pulling the eye with it.

btw... it will wobble a little more westerly, and then a slight bit easterly just after landfall.

Could not be happening at a worse time. Looked like she was going to go far enough to the east of NO to lessen the effects.

Prominent eye mesovortices have appeared again within both radar and satellite loops and the eye has shrunk down as it distorted.

Basically you're talking about the "gunk" in the eye, right? And it's a good thing?

She still may head more east of N.O. The city will get severe weather but hopefully not to the extent if she would make a direct hit or come in just west.

Herd yesterday Kat was due to come in just after high tide but she is now hitting earlier. Any one know what the tide is at now or a link to a tide table for the area.

As I understand it, the mesovortices are due to excess ventilation of the eye occurring. The last time they appeared like that the storm was intensifying rapidly, but it's almost on land now.
