Shelter Open in Beaumont, TX -- Also info for pet owners

#1 Postby KLP124 » Sun Aug 28, 2005 9:27 am

Got this off our local news station's website.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hotels and motels throughout the Golden Triangle are filling up quickly with evacuees fleeing Hurricane Katrina.
That's why the American Red Cross has opened up a shelter for evacuees needing shelter at Ford Park on Interstate 10 in Beaumont.
Evacuees should take I-10 West to 846 to Major Drive.
The shelter will not be accepting pets.
Evacuees are urged to bring blankets and sleeping bags.
Red Cross will be set up at the state information center at the Texas/Louisiana line instructing evacuees on where shelters can be found in Orange and Beaumont.
The Humane Society of Southeast Texas has activated its emergency network, in which the organization finds foster homes for the pets of evacuees.
To make arrangements, you can call (409)892-1309 Saturday.
Then on Sunday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., you can call (409)833-0504.
KFDM has also been contacted by Foskey Veterinary clinic in Orange.
It will be open around the clock until Monday for people needing a place for their pets.
The clinic does charge, but there is a vet available in case of an emergency.
You can call (409)988-0600 or (409)779-

I wrote in to Time Warner to suggest that they try to broadcast WWL on Channel 18 - Since there are SOOO MANY evacs here! I hope that Time Warner will be able to do this, as I know i'd much rather be watching my LOCAL TV Station rather than CNN/FoxNews.. Since this is SO CLOSE to us, is why I recommended this to them. I hope they listen! Our time in Beaumont will come sooner, rather than later.
