FLASH FLOOD STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
1017 PM EDT THU AUG 25 2005

FLC086-260500-
MIAMI-DADE FL-
1017 PM EDT THU AUG 25 2005

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES UNTIL 100 AM EDT FOR MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY...

AT 1012 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND LOCAL
RAIN GAUGE NETWORKS INDICATED RAINFALL OF 5 TO 9 INCHES HAS OCCURRED
OVER CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY WITH LOCALIZED AMOUNTS
UP TO 14 INCHES. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE
LIKELY IN THE WARNED AREA.

A FEW OF THE LOCATIONS MOST THREATENED BY FLOODING INCLUDE
KENDALL...PERRINE...COUNTRY WALK...CUTLER RIDGE....GOULDS...AND
HOMESTEAD.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY SIGNIFICANT FLOOD SITUATION. THIS AMOUNT
OF RAIN COULD RESULT IN EXTENSIVE FLOODING ACROSS SOUTH
FLORIDA...SIMILAR TO THAT EXPERIENCE WITH HURRICANE IRENE IN 1999
AND THE TROPICAL DISTURBANCE OF OCTOBER 2 2000.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE WIDESPREAD FLOODING
OF URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...AS WELL AS OTHER POORLY DRAINED AREAS
AND OTHER LOW LYING SPOTS AND MAY IMPACT NUMEROUS STRUCTURES.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY! THE WATER MAY OBSCURE DEEP CANALS OR PONDS. TURN AROUND
DON'T DROWN.

I live in the area of highest rainfall so far...fifteen inches as of 10:00pm according to Grlevel3 storm totals...at one point, six inches per hour.

This looks like it will top Irene in'99, at least where I'm situated.

My property is next to the C-100B canal...when things calm down a bit more, I'll go out back to check the water level in the canal. The water is about 2 1/2 feet deep in front of the house...luckily I'm on top of a sizable mound of fill.

I went out to check earlier, and just dodged a piece of TV antennae which had just come off the roof. It was luck, really, because I didn't see it coming.

The rain event is going to verify, I think. But all day long, the media downplayed the winds, saying "rain event, just a rain event". I just hope people were off the highways when these bands clobbered south Dade. Much more wind than was expected for the south side.

This was much more than most people were expecting. Never take ANY hurricane lightly.
