When and if do you think a tropical storm watch will be put out for the Tampa /St.pete area?

For the SW Florida coast... probably later today(11am or 5pm). The 2am Saturday position is just offshore, 36 hours before would be 2pm this afternoon, don't know whether it'll include Tampa though.

it's starting to look more and more like Tampa won't
be effected... other than some rain.

The following post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. It is NOT endorsed by any professional institution including storm2k.org For Official Information please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Watches should be posted around the 36 hour mark, if not sooner along the West coast and they would come first from the trek across the peninsula, not from the reentry later. The watches/warnings generated due to the 2nd landfall and Katrina's GOM track, would probably be going up on Saturday afternoon or evening, and due to the possibility of a track close to the W coast I would not be surprised if the watches/warnings cover most portions of the W coast up to and including the panhandle areas.

Remember, ths NHC will err on the side of safety.

Can you explain why or is that an opinion?? According to the mets here and the NHC plots. The west coast of florida is going to be closer to kat they say 24hours ago.
