FL Tax break on storm goods is on horizon

Don't know if this is a repost, but...

Florida lawmakers are poised to approve a 12-day sales-tax holiday on some hurricane supplies starting June 1.

TALLAHASSEE - Florida residents, many still punchy from last year's four hurricanes, are about to see a different kind of windfall: a sales-tax break on hurricane supplies during 12 days in June.

Lawmakers appear poised to waive the 6 percent sales tax during that period on everything from flashlights, batteries, radios and even low-priced portable generators.

The state hopes the tax break will induce people to stock up on supplies early, rather than wait until a monster storm is threatening the coast and stores are packed with panic buyers.

The break would come just in time for what could be an active hurricane season. William Gray, a professor at Colorado State University, predicted in April that there would be 13 tropical storms that grow into seven hurricanes, three of them intense.
