Total Solar Eclipse on the 29th of March 2006

Look to your right.

I live in southern California, and someone told me it is not possible for it to ever be such an event in that area. Well at least not for another 200 years. My question is, why?

Also. Is anyone going to be checking out this awesome sighting?

There was a Total Solar in SoCA in 1923. As to why, just the luck of the draw. The April 2024 is one Saros interval removed from this year's eclipse and will have 4 minutes of totality. In 2186, this Saros will produce a 7 minute 29 sec totality which is close to the theoretical maximum of 7 min 31 sec. The 2017 eclipse will be a short totality.
