With only a few days left in 2007 and no big events forecast at this point, I've decided to look back at what was memorable in 2007. Here are some I have come up with:

January 13 - Worst day of a major ice storm and blizzard from Texas to New England

February 2 - Deadly tornadoes in Central Florida

February 11 - Astronomical lake-effect snow in central New York

February 13 - Huge blizzard across the Midwest and Northeast

February 26 - Iowa buried by snow and ice

March 1 - Tornado outbreak in the Southeast

March 28 - Tornado outbreak in the western Plains

April 15 - Late Nor'easter with hurricane-like impacts in the Northeast

April 24 - Deadly tornado on the Texas-Mexico border

May 4 - Greensburg destroyed by an EF5 tornado

May 5 - Tornado outbreak in the central Plains

July 4 - Heat wave in the West peaks on the 4th of July

August 6 - Heat wave in the South and Midwest peaks

August 18 - Tropical Storm Erin revives out of nowhere in Oklahoma

September 2 - Record heat in California on Labor Day weekend

September 13 - Hurricane Humberto surprises east Texas and Louisiana

October 17 - Derecho and tornadoes cause major damage in the Plains

October 18 - Tornado outbreak in the Midwest and South

October 23 - Wildfires devastate southern California

December 6 - Major flooding in the Northwest

December 10 - Major ice storm in the Plains

December 15 - Major blizzard in the Midwest and Northeast

You forget Sir Felix the Insane, and mentioned Humberto without Lorenzo? That's some sort of crime if I've ever seen one!

Hard to pick the most memorable from that list!

The deadliest there was the January snow and ice storm (about 65 deaths in the US). The costliest was probably the October 23 wildfires or the December 6 flood (although no damage figures are out yet for most of the later events). The most dramatic was probably the Greensburg tornado.

I'd say the most memorable would be the Greensburg Tornado.

July 4 heat wave - ~40 deaths, damage unknown

Personally, I thought the March 1 tornadoes and August heat wave were most memorable. The January ice storm was also memorable, as well as the Greensburg tornado.

Hmm, and also the October 17-18 tornado outbreak will also remain in my memory for a while..

I say Greensburg EF5 tornado overall for the US.

The top 3 for me were:

1. The insane Lake Effect Snows of early Feb.
2. The Greensburg Tornado
3. The July 8th Hailstorm/Supercell for southern Ontario (worst thunderstorm of the year too)

EDIT: I forgot to mention the first Canadian F5 tornado that happened in Elie, Manitoba in late June.

For me personally it'd have to be March 1st because it hit locally. I was really concerned that entire day because we were under a high risk, though most of the bad stuff was to my south(for a change, usually it's to the west and north). The August heat wave and subsquent historic drought would be 2nd(though it would be 1st in terms of affecting me directly).

Humberto's shocker would be 3rd I think. Honorable mentions: Erin over Oklahoma, the April 15th storm(very strong winds here on the backside), and the February 2nd Florida tornado outbreak.

The February 2 Florida tornadoes were a big shock. I remember turning on my computer and WeatherBug had a little blurb along with a picture of the destruction. I immediately thought "Oh no! Not again!"

How about that recent downtown Pensacola tornado? That one made for some amazing footage.

We're only suppose to get hurricanes here, not mile-wide tornadoes ripping through downtown. That whole day was just chaotic, besides the tornado we were getting slammed all day with severe weather. I think we had like 20 inches of rain just in that week.

You atcually saw the tornado personally, Opalstorm?

Was the tornado really a mile wide? On the video, it did not look anywhere near that large and it would have been a huge disaster for Pensacola.
