Another flooding event possible for Florida Panhandle

#1 Postby Ivanhater » Sun Oct 21, 2007 11:09 am

Some areas around Pensacola including Gulf breeze got around 28 inches of rain in 2 days last week with most areas getting around a foot! Not to mention the tornado making its way through downtown...looks like another flooding event could take place on monday...

THE INCREASED SYNOPTIC SCALE ASCENT OPERATING ON THE DEEP LAYER GULF
MOISTURE STREAMING NORTHWARD TO THE EAST OF THE UPPER TROF...COMBINED WITH
A SLOW EASTWARD MOVEMENT SUGGESTS THAT ANOTHER HEAVY RAIN EVENT IS
BECOMING MORE PROBABLE ALONG THE GULF COAST MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT.
VEERING AND INCREASING WINDS WITHIN THE LOWER LEVELS OF THE
ATMOSPHERE SUGGESTS ENOUGH SHEAR SUPPORTING SOME SEVERE STORMS ON
MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT. HOWEVER...WITH MOIST ADIABATIC THERMAL
PROFILES KEEPING A CHECK ON INSTABILITY...COVERAGES OF SEVERE STORMS
ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE WITHIN SLIGHT RISK CRITERIA AS OUTLOOKED BY
THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER FOR THE NORTHERN GULF COAST. DUE TO THE
RECENT RECORD RAINFALL EVENT THAT OCCURRED OVER THE WESTERN FLORIDA
PANHANDLE...THERE IS CONCERN THAT ANOTHER HEAVY RAIN EVENT WILL
QUICKLY LEAD TO ANOTHER FLOODING EPISODE. THIS MAY LEAD TO A FLOOD
WATCH A BIT LATER AS WE AWAIT RECEIPT OF NEW DATA. STAY TUNED.

I would expect the drought to be broken over the panhandle.

Yeah...we were in a 2 foot deficit just a week ago now we have a chance to wipe it out in about a week...that is crazy

Ugh...this is shaping up to be almost the exact same scenerio we just saw last week. Ponds and rivers are filled up...another round of tropical downpours could lead to a big flooding event.

On the bright side...a big blast of cooler weather after this clears up.

Be happy..it's the only way to break a drought. It rarely if ever comes back in moderation. Sorry I know wet personal belongings suck but mother nature could care less. Stay safe..the floods will come.

Yeah, it looks like it's going to get heavy after midnight and through the day tomorrow. They issued a Flash Flood Watch a little over an hour ago.

Where's that ark when you need it?!
