Well it was so hot last night at 6:00 p.m. didn't even feel like mowing the grass. I think I'm going to just let is grow - too dang hot to get outside and do it.

Surprised with the lack of rainfall recently there, grass even grows.
Anyway, I remember those very hot days from the last few summers when the Southeast was severely drought stricken. Amazingly, in Charleston, SC, excessive heat advisories are almost never issued unless the heat index is expected to be in the 110º-115º.
A couple of years (1986 being one that stands out), excessive heat warnings were issued due to heat indecies values reaching near 120º.
Staying indoors by a good A/C is the best medicine for those "dog days".

Hey, don't forget Collin, Dallas, Denton, & Tarrant counties in North Texas.

I figured you guys were probably under heat advisories too Stooge. They just don't report that down here, or at least I don't hear it.
SF the official threshold here is 105ºf HI for heat advisories to be issued. We are now being progged to carry this at least through Saturday and probably into next week!!
Is that brown stuff in the yard what they call grass???

I'm just letting the back yard go and watering the front yard deeply once a week + any plants that need it. Can't forget the foundation either. Gotta keep the area near the foundation at least a little moist.

Same thing here with heat advisories - 105º heat index for 3 hours is the sustaining threshold for a heat advisory. Excessive heat warnings are usually issued for 110º-115º for 2-4 hours.

Its just plain HOT!

Ouch ... 105º to 108º reminds me of August 1st, 1999 here in Charleston.
The humidity values were about 20%-25% (dewpoints in the low 60's) giving heat indecy values about the same as the actual temperatures.
Charleston's 105º on August 1st, 1999 was, believe it or not, the least uncomfortable 105º I'd ever felt with a strong westerly wind of up to 20 mph.
It generally feels so much worse here with 95º temperatures and the usual high humidity, but nevertheless, that's some hot stuff in TX right now. Stay indoors if at all possible!..

120º heat index qualifies for an excessive heat warning. Stay indoors with the A/C. That kind of heat can kill very quickly, even the healthiest of people.

If there's any comfort GalvestonDuck, the humidity in Dallas usually isn't quite as high as it is in Houston/Galveston.
Still plenty hot enough.

Thanks, SF. I'll try to stay inside most of the time anyway.
I couldn't believe it when I read that the Galveston heat index was higher than Houston. Usually we feel cooler here (and usually are cooler) during the summer months because we have the sea breeze and then we're warmer in the winter (for the same reason).
Whew!

Yes but the humidity is lower!!! But it may be just as bad since it is so hot now that the heat is literally wringing all the moisture out of the atmosphere and the temps are just as high or higher in Dallas. Rh has gone down at least 10% in th elast hour as the temps have now risen to 104º-110º(real temps!!) with HI's up to 122º!!!! I feel like a fine roast(not shaped right for a steak!)broiling in the oven when I go out. Andnow the dog wants to be fed, which requires going outside!!!!

Just throw the steak on a pan and set it on the pavement as hot as it is right now.
