Yes..it's a good network and useful in climate and storm analysis, IMO.

It does seem like an interesting place, I had never heard of it before.
My state becomes a part of their community on Oct.1st. I will have to check back in with them then.

Yes, it's a somewhat old and quickly growing group of weather enthusiasts who measure their rainfall. As an observer for over a year now, I would strongly suggest that everyone that enjoys weather join. It's a simple task of checking and reporting your rainfall every morning, at 7am if possible, and then inputting the data into their website. Snow and frozen precip gets a little trickier, but you can read that in their instructions.

Costwise, it's very cheap. If you're lucky (like I), your county (or state, if that's all you have) coordinator will be able to provide you with a free rain guage. Otherwise, you can buy one for ~$20 bucks or so from any number of CoCoRaHS-specific online retailers - and that's a deal for an official DoC/NOAA/NWS rain gauge.

Again, they take all the volunteers they can get, as you can never have enough surface-based precip obs, especially in the summer.

Too bad NJ ain't a state.
