LOW TEMP OF 87F SETS A NEW RECORD
Key West Florida is known for its tropical warmth. After all, it is the furthest southern point in mainland USA.
However, this was extra-ordinary. Temperatures at Key West International Airport failed to drop below 87F on Thursday, even all through the night, marking the warmest minumum temperature ever recorded at this location. The previous record was 86F set only 4 times in history, once just the night before on July 25, 2007. July 13th 2007 also levelled out at 86F, and that hadn't happened since August 4, 1993!

This month has seen an incredible amount of record high minimum temperatures at Key West...among them July 1 (83F), July 7 ( 84F), July 8 (85F), July 9 (84F), July 10 ( 85F), July 11 (85F), July 13 (86F) July 14 ( 84F) July 19 ( 85F) and July 25 ( 86F).
The lowest temperature all month has been 77F occurring just twice on July 3 and July 23 (due to rain), and every single July day so far this month has been at least 90F.

Incidentally, the high temperature of 94F at Key West on July 11 was the warmest temperature to be recorded since July 31, 1991

Those are disgusting sleeping conditions. Especially tacking on the humidity.

Same, we had that last year and I thought it was the worst weather I'd ever seen.

We have that just about every year at some point. Lately we've been around 78-79

The home I sold was 1/3 mile from the runway at EYW. Those temps are extremely uncommon. Our friends down there are ready to come back to Houston after visiting for the 4th of July week. They cannot believe how hot it has been this year in Key West. 2 of our guests are 30 year residents of KW. Our time was from 2001 through 2006. We just had enough of the Hurricane situation and the big down turn in the real estate market.

ive seen reports of sea surface temperatures of 89F at Sombrero Key and 91F at Long Key!
not too surprising given the extreme warmth of the evenings.

Those water temps are quite commom for the Keys due to shallow waters inside the reef. FL Bay also can get into the low 90's with the average depth of 3 to 6 ft. The infamous Katrina maintained itself as is was over Everglades and FL Bay as it exited W bound just 40 mile N of KW. Water temps were running 90ish at that time.

Now that is STEAMY! With the marine influence, a low of 87 would be very uncomfortable indeed.

I've lived here in Scottsdale, AZ, for ten years now, and I have experience lows of 90, 91, and 93 on three different occasions. Each of those were during our humid time of year, but of course no marine layer was involved.

We did experience breezes on those nights which helped mix the hot 100+ daytime surface temps and reduce the normal radiational cooling.

87 in Key West would be very uncomfortable.

Even by Key West standards, July has been over the top steamy...average low temp so far this month has been 82! (from NWS Key West F6 Month to Date Climate)

Keep in mind that these temps have been accompanied by dewpoints in the 70's to around 80!

A temp of 87....like Key West say for a low last week...with a dewpoint of 77 gives a heat index of 100 or so...what a miserable night that must have been!!!
