This is what we are waiting for in AZ. This is a real monsoon thunderstorm. Unfortunately, this little jewel was in Mexico SE of Douglas but we get similar ones up here as well.

That's the puppy I was referring to Stevo..nice Icer Up top..ccccold.maybe Neg 38C.
I have some shots(not storm chasing that day,just had an appt at the Pima College Campus(Dwntn Tucson)at the end of last year's 'Soon.
I refer to the Hail event that had me on W bound I-10 near Miracle Mile Bridge with traffic stopped underneath for 20min.I have the cracked windshield and dents in Chaser 1 to show the ferocity of a Desert Hailer.I shot some nice Pix of the 'Head creeping into Dwntn Tucson from E Bound I-10 and hour earlier,as it came and 'sat',dumped and raised general hell.That monster was 60K feet easy with a Beavertail.Came in from Vail/Reddington Pass.
I'll have to scan them..after I find them of course!
This year's build up is much more text book than in the 'Feast or Famine' years of the past 8yrs.I like the timing,I like the flow,and with a GOC Surge from Sr Cortez I can see that as the possible 'Punch' in the atmosphere to get this Pig Runnin'..with spurs on!
Not a moment too soon.Looks like Summerhaven is under the gun for 'Round #2'...Uh-Oh. :o

The One From Last Year
that came into TUS via Vail was on August 5th. The storm started down here and raised cane in parts of SV and Huachuca City. I videotaped the outflow garbage as the storm blew out to our SE and then the forming line to our NW. Ran a chase on it but hit the core in Whetstone. With the storm moving out like a scalded rabbit and solid precip core all along Hiway 82 along the storm's path I knew there was no way I could get in front of it so I aborted the chase.
The other really nasty storm was the one on August 28th. The CAPE that day was over 5000 J/kg and the mean shear vector was in excess of 30kt with strong turning. It just missed being a tornadic day because the shear was a bit low (though landspouts were certainly possible) Storms built along the dryline SW of Tucson and blitzed the place big time with rotating hailer supercells rolling across the City. My son was caught on Speedway in Baseball hail which dinged his car up. His dynamics class studied that storm plus the one that gave the UofA 80mph winds while class was in session. Those storms passed NW of SV in the evening hours.

Hmmmmm.I just realized,that was my 18th ahem..Wedding Anniversary,
19JUN2000.I remember the LTG..constant.My kids called on the cell freaked out.I remember also...it appeared like a 'Wedding Cake'.
I was having dinner with 'whatzername' at 'Keaton's' at the Foothills Mall that eve @7:30pm...what a night that was..let's say..ahhh.it was 'noisy'.
