DALLAS, Texas (WFAA ABC 8) - A little taste of fall weather was expected to head into the Dallas-Fort Worth area Wednesday night. Temperatures were forecasted to drop 20 to 30 degrees cooler than D-FW has seen for awhile.
While the high temperature in D-FW was 92 degrees around 6 p.m. Wednesday, the temperature was expected to drop to 59 by 7 a.m.
By Friday morning, said News 8's Meteorologist Pete Delkus, temperatures are likely to drop to 51 degrees. And Saturday, North Texas might see temperatures in the the high 40s.
Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, temperatures throughout North Texas were already dropping. Witchita Falls' temperatures dropped to the upper 50s and Dallas and Fort Worth's dropped to the mid-80s.
The Canadian cold front was forecasted to move into D-FW around midnight, and behind that front much cooler temperatures were expected.
"Tomorrow is going to be a breezy, chilly day compared to these 90s we've had," Delkus said Wednesday.
The National Weather Service reported that the cold front entered northern Young at 20 mph a little before 8:00 p.m. The report also estimated the front would reach the Weatherford and McKinney area around 11:00 p.m.
Delkus also reported scatter rains could also develop in the area.
Showers and thunderstorms stretched from Oklahoma into the Panhandle early Wednesday night.
"The thunderstorms are fairly intense," Delkus said. "Nothing terribly bad, but some good thunderstorm activity from Lubbock to Childress and up into Oklahoma."
The storms were projected to move towards the North Texas area. And while the intensity should diminish by the time it reaches the area, scattered showers were predicted.
"We have a better chance of seeing some showers and thunderstorms to the west," Delkus said. "I also think east of Dallas we will get into a little bit of rain as well."
