FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
940 AM EDT THU JUN 19 2003

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RUSKIN HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR ALL OF CITRUS...HERNANDO AND PASCO
COUNTIES UNTIL 2 PM EDT.

FLOODING WILL AFFECT THE FOLLOWING CITIES IN CITRUS COUNTY.
INVERNESS.
HOMOSASSA SPRINGS.
CRYSTAL RIVER.
BEVERLY HILLS.

IN HERNANDO COUNTY FLOODING WILL AFFECT THE FOLLOWING CITIES.
SPRING HILL.
BROOKSVILLE.

IN PASCO COUNTY FLOODING WILL AFFECT THE FOLLOWING CITIES.
ZEPHYRHILLS.
NEW PORT RICHEY.
HUDSON.
DADE CITY.

* AT 930 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
A BANDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUOUSLY TRAINING ONSHORE
FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO BETWEEN THE WITHLACOOCHEE RIVER AND NEW
PORT RICHEY. RAINFALL RATES OF 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE LIKELY WITH
MANY AREAS HAVING ALREADY RECEIVED 2 TO 4 INCHES WITH ACCUMULATED
TOTALS OF 4 TO 6 INCHES POSSIBLE.

AT 919 AM EDT...LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS HAVE REPORTED THAT
FLOODING HAS CAUSED EXTENSIVE FLOODING OF NUMEROUS ROADWAYS IN
CITRUS COUNTY WITH THE CLOSURE OF SOME ROADWAYS AND INTERSECTIONS
INCLUDING U.S. 19 AT STATE ROAD 44 IN CRYSTAL RIVER. CITRUS COUNTY
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IS DISCOURAGING ANY UNNECESSARY TRAVEL
THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.
MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND NOW. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND
CREEKS...SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS NOW TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY. DO
NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS...OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN
DEPTH...BY FOOT OR BY AUTOMOBILE. IF YOUR VEHICLE STALLS...ABANDON IT
AND SEEK HIGHER GROUND.

Thanks Joshua!!! What worries me is the disturbance in the GOM..If it doesn't stay put and develop that moisture will feed towards us too..never thought I'd be wishing for development but in this case :roll:

I am currently just several miles from a large band of rain to my east, southeast, south, southwest and another area to my west. It has been raining on and off this morning.

We are getting drenched and got hammered by lightning before!!! I think they may reissue the flood warning..We are under a watch still till tommorow at least!!! Stay safe TOM!! :wink:

Thank you, Jonathan. You stay safe too. The Flood Watches have been up for your area sine at least yesterday afternoon. I am just east of the northern portion of the Flood Watch.

Tom they say in the dicussion about an avn vorticity bulls-eye..but he will go with the weaker eta model..hope he is right lol :roll:

POPS THROUGH SATURDAY. THE COMBINATION OF AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH...
DEEP SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW NORTH OF THE RIDGE...AND AMPLE TROPICAL
MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO FOCUS SCATTERED TO WIDESPREAD RAINFALL
ACROSS THE REGION. MODELS DISPLAY DAY-TO-DAY DIFFERENCES...BUT
OVERALL IDEA IS THE SAME. AVN PROBABLY A BIT TOO STRONG WITH
VORTICITY BULLS-EYES AND PREFERRED WEAKER ETA SOLUTION. WIDESPREAD
RAINS OVER THE NORTHERN ZONES TONIGHT WILL DRIFT SOUTHWARD INTO THE
CENTRAL ZONES. EXPECT ALL AREAS TO HAVE SCATTERED TO LIKELY COVERAGE

The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for the counties of Pasco... northern Pinellas and northern Hillsborough in Florida

until 6pm EDT.

In north Hillsborough County flooding will affect the areas of Temple Terrace. Tampa. Plant City. Lutz.

In Pasco County flooding will affect the following areas. Zephyrhills. New Port Richey. Hudson. Holiday. Dade City. Northern Pinellas County in Florida.

In north Pinellas County flooding will affect the following cities. Tarpon Springs. Palm Harbor. Dunedin. Clearwater.

* At 215 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to show bands of showers and thunderstorms training onshore from the Gulf of Mexico... mainly between Hudson in Pasco County south to the mouth of Tampa Bay. Rainfall rates of 2 inches inches per hour falling over already saturated ground will continue to cause some localized flooding from the ponding of rain runoff.

At 145 PM EDT... emergency management in Pasco County reported extensive flooding of roadways and flood prone areas of south New Port Richey... especially in the Magnolia valley area.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If in a flood prone area... move to higher ground. Residents living along streams and creeks... should take precautions now to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters... waters... or waters of unknown depth... by foot or by automobile. If your vehicle stalls... abandon it and seek higher ground.

Don't become a statistic. Turn around... don't drown!

I like the last line of the Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Ruskin, FL (Tampa Bay Area).... "Don't become a statistic. Turn around... don't drown!" --- So true! :o..... I would love to hear it on NOAA Weather Radio, the synthesizer voices are great.

Interesting that I am in the extreme northeast corner of the Ruskin, FL forecast and advisory area.

We had 2-5 in. of rain in the last hr and half. There is water in the front door of our bldg. It is a mess here. Totally unexpected. Cars stalled, people in water up to their knees.

Bonnie, are these flooding rains, really totally unexpected? Looking at the radar almost non-stop rain has been moving off the coast and the flood watches have been up since yesterday for the western coastal Florida counties.

We now have several areas where streets are lloking more like rivers. The good thing in my area is that it runs off pretty quick. I'm only 5 blocks from the Gulf so most of it clears out pretty fast. The people who will be in real trouble are those along the rivers. With the rain non-stop in the central part of the state it will be days before the rivers crest. Break out the canoes and 22 pistols for the snakes!
