Isolated SVR T-storms Possible Across Central NC Today

Statement as of 10:21 AM EDT on May 12, 2005
... Isolated severe thunderstorms possible late this afternoon and
evening...
Temperatures and humidity will rise today across central North
Carolina ahead of a cold front dropping south into the area late
this afternoon and evening. Unstable air... aided by cooling
temperatures in the upper atmosphere... will result in
thunderstorms. A few of the storms may become severe. The main
threat will be from large hail... but localized damaging wind from
downbursts are also possible. The expected slow movement of the
storms also raises the potential for locally intense rainfall with
spot flooding on Highways or in urban areas.
Skywarn spotter network activation may be needed late this
afternoon into the early evening hours... mainly from 5pm through
9pm.

later updates or possible storm watches or warnings.
