Okay, all you Dallas S2K members.....be kind to our former Chief Meteorologist Pete Delkus. WFAA-TV offered him a position he couldn't refuse. Mr. Delkus had quite the following and lots of respect around here but I wish him well. Hopefully you'll appreciate his straightforward, way of forecasting. Wonder if he'll miss snow? Wait, that's right Dallas seems to get more than we do, at various time, in the past. LOL

Jeremy - yes he does. Hope Dallas realizes what they're getting here - a top notch Met!
I never realized how many anchormen/women Channel 9 has lost to the big-leagues. Knew about Bill Hemmer, I remember his start at Channel 9 quite well. He grew up on the West Side of Cincinnati, where I lived for about 15 years. It's almost like Channel 9 is jinxed!
And I never knew Pete Delkus once played minor league baseball. Learn something everyday.
I wish him well.

PS - and Jeremy, can't help but say this, I'm glad it wasn't Tim Hedrick or Steve Horstmeyer from Channel 12 that was offered an out of town job! Sad to see Delkus go though.

Im from the Dallas/ Fortworth area!
ya the weather is very weird in Texas and depending on what part of the state u live it varies some people think its hot here cold and snowy tornadoes. ill try to break it down for you. the texas panhandle is the coldest and snows the most they usually get 20-25 inches a yr. sometimes and often more this yr. Amarrillo Texas had 20 inches in march which is more then nyc boston dc and all the northeast had in march. theres also 3000 feet of elevation in the panhandle its kinda like denver but not as bad.... their snowiest months are nov. and march. west sees 4-5 snows maybe 8-12 inches a yr. from the big bend to midland to abilene and it really varies in dallas fort worth it snowed 1-2 inches on easter in parts of fort worth and in midlothian in southwestern dallas county thats kinda hard to believe so late in the season western suberbs of Dfw see about 3-6 inches a yr. 2-3 snows sometimes dallas may only see 1-2 snows a yr. it really varies the averages r really skewed cuz theres sleet and ice and they dont average that in theres been some big ice storms in dallas. south of waco doest see much at all cus of the gulf mexico air. New Mexico is the 2nd biggest snow sking state behind Co. in the country and Texas is right next to it so of course there gonna be powerful low pressure systems that bring snow because they track across north texas and ok. ad st.louis and head to yall and yall get hammered and the ne get the northeasters. but the panhandle is the only part of the state that sees apreciable snow that even hardcore northerners could appreciate because of the snow in november and march. the panhandle probably saw more snow in november and march this yr. then cinci and all of the northeast did as a matter of fact i know so ....but the summers r freakin hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but its hot everywhere in the U.S. really just a little hotter in tx barely noticible people talk about the tornadoes i guess there kinda bad but its just like a country within a state. very weird weather because of the New Mexico cold mountain air and the Mexico heat

Ditto Mario - welcome to Storm2K!
Thanks for that Texas 101 Weather analysis. Now I know I'm not crazy when I say sometimes it does seem like Dallas gets more snow than Cincy does! I visited Dallas 20 years ago. I remember seeing that dry river basin, the one that's visible during the TV show Dallas' theme song. The friend I visited said it's mostly dry and empty. But if a sudden downpour happens or a few days of rain, it fills up quickly. Another thing I guess is very different from the Midwest. The Ohio River always has water in it!

ya but.....
ya but Dallas is in tornadoe alley theres tornadoes in every state but its not like tornado alley in southern kansas to oklahoma down to central texas around waco 3 hrs. south of dallas. he really has to know tornadoes here around here because theres more of them.this is the tornado part of the usa in southern kansas oklahoma and north texas. tornadoes r the only crippling weather around here. the ice/sleet storms are bad too. theres 1 good ice/sleet storm a yr. that i look forward too. November thanksgiving 93 when miami played at Dallas was the best, when leon lett slipped on the ice and snow and blew the game at texas stadium. that was funny!! Dfw gets a couple inches of snow a yr. but it doesnt compare to the 15inch blizzards and heavy snow cincinatti gets every yr.Dfw is close enough to the Nem Mexico mountains that good ice storms can develop, oklahoma and kansas its worse though.... east and south of dallas the Nm air withers away. in la, al.and ga ms, and sc, unless its and arctic blast.... but tornadoes r more serious in the southern plains in ks,ok and north texas then the ohio valley . hell have to really be on point when it comes to tornados in north texas.......
